  • What is a Physiatrist?

A Physiatrist (fizz-eye-uh-trist) is a Physician who specializes in restoring function to a patient with an acute injury or chronic pain.  A physiatrist will complete four years of medical school and then a four year residency program in the field of Pain Management and Rehabilitation.

There are numerous ways a Physiatrist will help a patient maximize their quality of life, these include but are not limited to: injection therapy, physical rehabilitation and medication management. They are often part of comprehensive “team” involving Physical Therapists, Primary Care Physicians and Surgeons.
